Why We Don’t Have a Showroom

Why We Don’t Have a Showroom

Why doesn’t Forme Living Co have a showroom? Because we chose a different way to do furniture — keeping things online-first, reducing traditional retail overheads, and focusing more on thoughtful design, quality and making beautiful furniture easier to buy from home.

One of the questions we’re asked most often is: “Where can I come and try your sofas?”

The answer is simple: we don’t have a traditional showroom.

And that isn’t something we’re trying to fix. It’s part of how Forme Living Co was designed from the beginning.

Furniture retail has traditionally looked a certain way

For a long time, buying a sofa meant visiting a large furniture showroom, walking through rows of styled rooms, sitting on half a dozen sofas and eventually arranging delivery of the one you chose.

There’s nothing wrong with that model. But showrooms also come with significant overheads — large retail spaces, elaborate fit-outs, display stock, staffing and the cost of operating physical locations.

When we created Forme Living Co, we wanted to approach furniture differently.

We’re an online-first furniture brand built around a much simpler idea: beautiful, comfortable furniture should be easier to discover, easier to buy and easier to get into your home.

So instead of building a traditional retail network, we chose to put our focus elsewhere.

Where we choose to invest instead

Not having a showroom allows us to keep our operation lean and concentrate our resources on the things that matter most to the product itself — design, materials, manufacturing, photography, logistics and customer experience.

It also allows us to offer contemporary pieces without building the cost of an expensive retail footprint into the way we operate.

Our collection is deliberately considered rather than enormous. We’re not trying to fill a warehouse-sized showroom with hundreds of variations.

We would rather create a smaller collection of pieces we genuinely love.

But buying a sofa online is a big decision

We know.

A sofa isn’t a candle or a cushion. It’s one of the largest pieces in your home, something you’ll live with every day, and often the centre of the room.

That’s why we try to give you as much information as possible before you order.

Our product pages include dimensions, detailed product photography, fabric and material information and guidance on what to expect when your sofa arrives.

If colour or texture is the deciding factor, fabric samples can help you see how a material looks in your own home — in your lighting, next to your flooring and alongside the pieces you already own.

And if you’re unsure about sizing, configuration or which style might work best in your space, you can always reach out to us.

There are real humans behind Forme.

Our sofas were also designed for a different kind of delivery

A large part of the reason Forme can operate differently is the furniture itself.

Our sofas use compression technology that allows them to travel in a significantly more compact form before expanding once they arrive in your home.

Instead of designing a sofa around the requirements of traditional furniture freight, we can think about how furniture fits into the way people actually live today — apartments, terraces, lifts, narrower entrances and homes where manoeuvring a conventional full-sized sofa can be surprisingly difficult.

Your sofa arrives compressed and boxed. Once unpacked, the foam gradually draws air back in and recovers its intended shape.

It’s furniture designed with the journey to your living room in mind, not just how it looks once it gets there.

There’s also something we like about shopping from home

A showroom gives you a few minutes with a sofa in a highly controlled environment.

Your home gives you the context that actually matters.

You can measure your room properly. Compare dimensions with your existing furniture. Look at fabric samples in your own light. Take your time. Come back to the product page tomorrow.

There’s no salesperson hovering nearby and no pressure to make a decision before leaving the store.

For us, that feels much more aligned with the way people shop today.

Could we have a showroom one day?

Never say never.

Forme will continue to evolve, and we love the idea of creating opportunities for our community to experience the collection in person — whether through events, pop-ups, collaborations or something more permanent in the future.

But we don’t believe a traditional showroom needs to be the foundation of a furniture brand.

For now, we’re happy doing things a little differently.

Thoughtful design. A more direct way to shop. And furniture made for modern Australian living.

That’s Forme.
